Pasadena Man Arrested After Murdering an Elderly Woman

A Pasadena man was arrested on Wednesday for a connection with the killing of a retired doctor who was found stabbed and strangled to death in her home, earlier in December.

Police and FBI agents arrest fifty-six-year-old Timothy Chavira, who was charged on suspicion of murder.

Seventy-six-year-old Editha Cruz de Leon was murdered on December 8th, in the 3900 block of North Van Horne Avenue, where she resided.

The woman died shortly before noon, and her death was a result of foul play.

According to the autopsy results, de Leon died of sharp force injuries and strangulation.

Detectives identified Chavira as a suspect and took him into custody on Wednesday night.

The motive for the murder is not known, as well as if the murderer knew the victim.

De Leon was a Philippines native where she lived with eleven siblings. She migrated to the USA with her spouse, Rogelio, in the 1970s, searching for a better life for her family. She continued her medical education in Ohio.

Later she became an obstetrician, and in the 1980s, she and her family moved to California.

After she retired, she was traveling to the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe, but eventually settled because she wanted to be close to her family in California and New Jersey. She had hobbies such as cooking, gardening, and wine tasting. De Leon had five sons and cared deeply about her family.

According to the records, the bail for her murderer is set at $2 million, pending his first court appearance.
