HOUSTON, TX – A man was killed Thursday morning when his vehicle slammed into the back of a tow truck that was assisting with a prior accident.
KHOU reports that the incident happened at about 1 a.m. today, on the westbound Sam Houston Tollway near Gessner Road. A constable’s deputy was on the scene at the time, helping the stranded motorist move their vehicle onto the shoulder. The tow truck was positioned behind the police vehicle to provide protection from oncoming vehicles. That’s when a Hyundai slammed into the back of the wrecker.
It is unclear why the Hyundai was driving on the shoulder.
The driver of the Hyundai became pinned in the wreckage, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries have been reported.
