Crash Alert: Man charged with DWI after killing 19-year-old woman

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A man has been charged with driving while intoxicated after causing an accident that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old woman on Nov. 22.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez shared some details of the accident via Twitter. The 19-year-old victim, identified as Adrienne Sophia Exum, was driving with her door open and not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The accident happened on West Road near North Freeway.

Exum was speeding away from a bank with a man in the passenger seat right before the crash. Her car was then struck by a Dodge pickup truck driven by Heriberto Fuerte-Padilla. Exum was ejected from her vehicle and died at the scene. The male passenger was not injured.

Padilla attempted to flee the scene but was detained. Police determined Padilla was intoxicated and was arrested for DWI and failure to render aid.
