Baby Dies in a Crash, Police Arrested the Mother Driver

A four-month-old baby died, and two other children were taken to a hospital after they were involved in a collision. The children’s mother is arrested on a murder charge into Van Nuys alley jail; the police believe the reason behind the fatal accident was alcohol.

The direct crash occurred in the 15200 block of West Nordhoff Street in the west San Fernando Valley community. A white sport utility vehicle driven by the mother (she was later identified as twenty-three-year-old Irlanda Sanchez) crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed with a black SUV, the police informed.

Sanchez was traveling with her three children,  two four-month-old twins, and a toddler.  After the crash, the children were transported to a hospital, the police said. Jacob Sanchez, one of the twins, died at the hospital.

The four-month-old twin girl and the 2-year-old toddler had severe injuries; doctors listed their condition as critical. Later, the children’s injuries were listed as severe to moderate.

According to the police and the first investigation showed the children might not have been properly secured in their car seats.

The driver of the black SUV had moderate injuries and was also taken to a hospital.

Sanchez was arrested on suspicion of murder and DUI. Her bail was set at $2 million.
