Southwest Freeway in Sugar Land Re-opened after Fatal Crash

Part of U.S. 59 Southwest Freeway that was closed on Wednesday after a fatal accident in Sugar Land has reopened.

The two-vehicle collision occurred about 7:30 a.m. on the northbound side of U.S. 59.

According to Sugar Land police, the accident involved a passenger vehicle and an eighteen-wheeler truck. The police reported that a woman in the passenger vehicle was killed on the scene.

Police said witnesses reported that a woman driving a Honda have hit the center divider wall, overcorrected and slammed into the eighteen-wheeler.

The police closed all northbound lanes of the Southwest Freeway while investigators were at the scene. The highway reopened about 10:30 a.m.

The identity of the victim is still not released.

Accidents involving eighteen-wheelers are twice as more dangerous than any other collision between two cars, for example. The risk of the injuries and the fatal outcomes increases for the driver and passengers in the smaller vehicle. The injuries are never minor, and the recovery for the victim will be extended.

The medical recovery will cost a lot, and the victim will have to stay at home during the recovery, so the lost wages would be another issue.
